Another Childhood Food Memory

Rest/ Pilates

More rest for this girl. Sigh. Pilates was good though. There were a few moves that I thought might aggravate my glute, so I took it easy on those. My favorite instructor Mary Anne is awesome and said she would look into my glute problem and e-mail me with some info. Gotta love a teacher that goes above and beyond!

I feel like I’ve been reliving my childhood lately with the Fluffernutters and oldies music and skiing. Here is yet another memory from my childhood… Hot Dog Cheesy Toast! We used to make these all the time for a quick, simple, yummy lunch. I was telling Todd about them last week and so we decided to have them for lunch this weekend. Here is how you make them:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. You’ll need one piece of bread and one slice of cheese per hot dog. I know hot dogs aren’t the best thing for you, but there are so many better options out there than there were 15 years ago. I usually get a leaner option and like the bun length hot dogs. As for the cheese, we used to just use the Kraft American Cheese slices. You know, the ones. This go around I used sharp cheddar slices… a great improvement if you ask me 🙂

IMAG0962Then you put them in your oven to bake for 15ish minutes, or until the bread gets toasty and the cheese gets melty! Meanwhile, cook yourself up some veggies for a side…

IMAG0976Yes, those were all MY veggies… Todd had Sun Chips as his side, haha. And before you know it, you have Hot Dog Cheesy Toast 🙂 So simple, yet so good.

IMAG0964 (1)Remember when they came out with cheese stuffed hot dogs? I don’t know why, but I thought those were so gross, yet I like these cheesy dogs, haha. Since I had my carbs, protein, veggies and fats in this meal, I was missing just one thing…

IMAG0978My serving of fruit! We all know I’m NOT a beer drinker, but lets be honest… can a cider REALLY be considered a beer? Ummm, no. I give Redd’s Apple Ale a thumbs up!

Are you going to give this “recipe” a shot?

Please tell me I’m not the only one who eats a plate full of veggies as a side…

  1. I used to eat those frankfurter hot dogs and cheese slices when younger and I can’t believe I didn’t ever have the genius inside of me to try them together. Maybe I’ll have to relive that nostalgia 🙂

  2. I so remember hotdog cheese toast. Once in a blue moon I will whip one up. I’m just not a huge hotdog fan any more.

    • Ya, we don’t eat them very often, but these hit the spot! And I know my mom made us these for lunch when you were over a number of times 🙂

  3. So I have been LOVING ciders lately and I actually went out a week ago and ordered a “cider beer” at a pub that has ornery waiters (in a good way though) and I got SCHOOLED! My waiter said to me, “it’s not cider’s just cider.get your lingo right!!” Which sounds TOTALLY assholey…but he was all in good fun and now I know to NEVER call it cider beer haha. I have to be honest..the hotdog/cheese sandwich scares me haha.

    • Good to know! Thank you for keeping me from looking like a dumby in public 🙂 You should totally try it with a vegan dog… Do it.
