It’s Taper Time!

Sunday: 5 easy + 3 @ tempo + 5 easy + 3 @ tempo + 2 easy

Recap Below.

Monday: 3 miles @ 8:20 pace on treadmill

My shortest shake out run to date, haha.

Nov 17As usual, the Florida weather was less than desirable. It was 70 degrees with 88% humidity at 6AM. Lovely. Because this was my last long run, I wanted to make it a strong one and be able to hit my paces, so I opted for another half and half run. My plan going into it was to adjust my 6:50 tempo pace to 6:55 outside and then 6:44 on the treadmill. There will be no surprise when I tell you I started out too fast. I looked down at my watch after half a mile and I was at 6:42. No Bueno. If you’ve ever done speed work, you’ll know what I mean when I say it’s hard to slow down! Sounds silly, but “slowing down” means by a few seconds to your mind, but by a lot of seconds to your legs, haha. Thankfully I was able to uncomfortably but comfortably (think it through) reign it in and hold a 6:46 pace.

I planned my route out perfectly so that I was at a water station at the end of my first tempo. I grabbed a sip of water and headed home to do my last tempo on the treadmill. Since I did the first one at 6:46 in the crappy weather, I figured I should do this one faster than the 6:44 I had planned, and that I did. I had a busy day ahead of me and was worried I wouldn’t get Ry girl out for a walk, so I took her for the last 1.5 miles of my cool down. BAD IDEA.

First off, she always lags behind on the way out. Like, my arm is behind me and she is the full leash length behind me. It looks like I’m dragging her along. Then, on the way back, she picks it up and is a speed racer! So I have to tug on the leash and pull her back (she’s 60lbs). Not to mention she stops to pee/poop. Except, she has stop 5 time before she actually goes to sniff out the BEST place to mark her spot. Really? Just crap already! On a normal run with her its annoying, but it’s not big deal. After 16 miles, it’s just plain painful. Your legs don’t want to stop and start OVER and OVER. Never again.

What DID happen again that I am very happy about it this:

IMAG1418ANOTHER $10 credit at Godiva! I went in for my free chocolate of the month and walked out with all this! I got the Salted Almond truffle for my free monthly one and it was mighty tasty. The center is an almond praline creme, mmmm. With my credit, I got a Gingerbread truffle that tasted more like a graham cracker truffle, but it was good. The Dark Chocolate Peppermint Bark is AWESOME! My mom and I were just talking about this and I was so excited when I saw this on the shelf.  And of course I had to get something “healthy” so I got 72% dark 😉

Now that I’m in my taper phase, I probably shouldn’t have gotten all that chocolate, but hey… I can’t turn down anything that’s free. I think my body is ready for the taper, but my mind is not. Pretty typical. I got a nice, relaxing massage today to kick start my next 2 weeks of taper madness!

Do you look forward to the taper?

What is your favorite chocolate combo?
