I am 10 days out from the Space Coast Marathon. I’d be lying to you if I said I wasn’t nervous. REALLY nervous. I haven’t RACED a marathon, or any other distance for that matter, in almost a year. Sure, I ran Boston, but I didn’t race it. There is a HUGE difference, especially when you’ve raced 26.2 before. You know it’s going to be hard and you’re going to be in pain at the end. Sometimes ignorance really is bliss, haha. I’m trying to put those negative thoughts out of my mind, but somehow they always creep up.

I’ve been having bad racing dreams… Anyone else know what I’m talking about? I can’t find the starting line, my legs won’t move, I’m locked in the restroom, my only pre race fuel is bread pudding. Bread pudding?! I must have watched an episode on the Food Network/Cooking Channel that made this, as I haven’t had that in the longest time, haha. Luckily, all of my dreams can’t really happen- except the restroom one I guess. Speaking of which, I think my bowels know about my plan to hang out with Marissa this weekend (we’ve had many “emergencies“) because they decided I needed to “go” only a half mile into my run. I was about 2 miles from a restroom and there was NO way I was making it that far. Thank goodness I remembered there were porta potties at a baseball field across the road.

My warm up was super slow and my legs felt really heavy. I was dreading this run and I think my legs knew it. The weather was a tad better than normal with a temp of 67 degrees, but there was still 90% humidity. It sprinkled a bit toward the end, but I didn’t mind in the least, as it helped cool me off. I planned to try and hit my 6:50 pace dead on and was surprised to run both 2 mile tempos faster. The run wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, so I guess that’s good, considering all the negative thoughts I’ve been having lately.

BOOM! Knocked out the last one like a boss, haha. <–There ya go, Heather… confidence. Hopefully I can work my magic at the race! And you know who else does crazy magic? David Blaine. Did you guys watch his special last night, “Real or Magic?” OMG it was good. I’ve never really been into magic, but I could not believe everything he did. He pushed an ice pick through his hand and then pulled it out with no blood, damage or anything! He even did it at a doctors office and they took x-rays of it and you could see it in his hand. Ridiculous. I’d post a pic, but I don’t want to gross anyone out, haha. On a totally random note, I got froyo the other day and they had Pumpkin Spice Malt Balls as a topping!

IMAG1420Malt balls are never my go-to candy of choice, but they will be now if they’re covered in pumpkin spice goodness! Who knew?! One last random thought… If you watch the news at all, I’m sure you’ve already heard, but kids these days take a full minute and a half (90 seconds) LONGER to run a mile than kids 30 years ago. How sad, especially considering the shoes they wear cost 90 times more, haha. Lets get these kids outside more!

Do negative thoughts creep into your taper?

Did you watch the David Blaine special?

  1. I remember watching HUNDREDS of videos about the Chicago Marathon to try and calm my nerves. But that marathon magic is going to kick in as soon as you toe the start line and you are going to kick butt!!

    • Thanks girl! You’d think I’d be used to the nerves by now, but NOPE! You’re right that once I’m at the starting line I’ll be good to go.

  2. Totally had pre race dreams too! I had a dream that I was at the starting line but I forgot my GU, my headphones, and my shoes!! You shouldn’t stress though girl. I know you got this! You may be nervous all the way to the race but as soon as you start, you’ll be in your zone and no one will be able to stop you!

  3. The David Blaine show was INSANE! How in the world can he do all those crazy card tricks, or turn a dollar bill into a hundred dollar bill (those kids were so funny as they ran away) or shove an ice pick thru his hand with no blood?!

Onto the marathon. You have been running incredible paces in this gross weather (I live in Oviedo, FL so I can totally relate) and you have a winner’s mentality, that’s half the battle right there! You are going to crush this run!

    • Ya, that $100 bill one was funny. Not gonna lie, I closed my eyes for most of the ice pick ones, and the eye and string one, Gross. I never stay up until 11 but had to finish watching it, haha.

Thank you for the positive words! You’re right, running is so much more mental than physical sometimes. I just need to go back and review my log to see all the hard work I’ve put into it. Thanks again 🙂

  4. HAHAHA thanks for the shout out!! (even if its regarding bowel movements lol) Cant wait to see you this weekend! I may have made a little treat for you last night that I will be bringing. (It involves almonds and cinnamon made into creamy goodness)

You are going to do amazing next weekend at your race girl!! you have been killing your workouts… like a boss!

    • If you haven’t already made the AB you should totally use Pumpkin Spice instead of cinnamon.. Why have I not thought of this before?! Either way I am excited to see YOU 🙂
