Happy Hump Day and I’m TRI-ing Something New

WORKOUT

Wednesday: 6 miles @ 7:53 pace on trail

You guys are going to kill me, but it finally got cooler this morning (63 degrees) and I had such a nice run. I wore my watch, but again, didn’t look at my pace. It’s amazing what a few degrees, despite the humidity, can do to make a run easier. I am welcoming a small cold front this week with open arms πŸ™‚

Oh, and I posted yesterday’s post before I took Body Sculpt and let me tell you… it was a straight up Step class, with a few weights thrown in. Not my jam. I mean, I sweat a bit, but I could have used that hour much more productively. Why didn’t I leave then? Because the instructor lives in my neighborhood and I would feel bad every time I see her when walking Ry.

I’ve been saying I owe you guys a “baby making” post for a while now, and I figured today- being hump day and all- is perfect timing πŸ˜‰ Ha. Now, let me start off by saying that we talked about this topic and blogging in our van during Ragnar. I think we all agreed that my blog is mainly about running, but about my life as well. SO, while I plan on keeping everyone updated on starting a family, this blog isn’t turning into a mommy blog. I’m sure I’ll get overly excited about certain things and want to share and for those times I will, but I still want the focus of HRF (Heather Runs Fast) to be Heather Running Fast, haha. Obviously getting pregnant affects my running, so avoiding the topic altogether would just be silly! Just like this pic of Riley and I reppin our PRO Compression sleeves and sippin on Nuun and juice (read water)/laid back/ with my mind on my Nuunies and my Nuunies on my mind! Like that rendition of Gin and Juice?Β @nuunhydration #nuunlifeΒ #keepittight

Back to babies, here is a synopsis of my back story, without boring the crap out of you… I was on birth control for a number of years. Got off of it a year ago in April (right before Boston) and haven’t had a real period since March. After running The Space Coast Marathon Dec.1 (which I only ran because Todd was out of town for 2 months before that and therefore we wouldn’t be able to make a baby anyways) I cut my mileage in half to about 30-35 miles and stopped doing any intense exercise- speed work, heavy lifting, long runs- and gained some weight. When we got back from Asia, the first thing I did was make an appointment with my GYN, who put me on progesterone. The medicine is supposed to get things stirring and make me get my period. Weeeeeellll, it didn’t. Next up came a sonogram. Everything was fine on that front- thank goodness! This takes us to a little over a week ago. The doc said I’m at healthy weight, with a normal BMI, and my moderate exercising probably isn’t harming anything, so rather than wasting time waiting, she’s sending me to a specialist. I was initially really emotional, but I’m cool with it now.

Gah! That was a lot longer than I thought and hope you made it through and are still reading, haha. Needless to say, I won’t be competitively training for anything anytime soon, but still plan to run and even race once I get pregnant. You can tell I get bored when not training because I start TRI-ing new things. Like Ragnar a few weeks go. Leslie, from my van has run a ton of triathlons (even IRONMAN’s!!!) and we talked about them quite a bit. And then RaechelΒ said she was doing a Tri in Cocoa Beach (where Space Coast was) and that I should join. I tossed the idea around, waiting to hear what the doc would say about my running. I’ve always wanted to do one, but never thought I actually would.Β Well my friends, on April 13th, Raechel and I will be swimming, biking and running in the Cocoa Beach Triathlon!

Looks like this girl needs to start swimming! I know I’m a FL girl born and raised, but I can’t swim. Let me clarify… I can swim for fun, like playing around in the pool, but with proper, efficient form? Not so much. I’ll be hitting up the YMCA to take swim lessons with the toddlers. I’m not ashamed, haha. Good thing I’ve got a rap ton of Nuun to train with, because despite a mini cold front coming through tonight, it’s HOT and HUMID here ALL-freakin-READY!

Does baby talk annoy you? Be honest!

Have you done a triathlon?

  1. I love your picture!!! Too cute!! I just can’t resist a dog, especially one that wears pink! What a fashionable pup!! πŸ˜‰ Also, good luck with your swim lessons! I’m sure you’ll pick it up quick! How exciting- a triathlon! I do run-swim-runs, but am not a fan of cycling, so…maybe one day!! πŸ˜‰

    • She is a cutie πŸ™‚ I’m opposite of you, I like the biking but not the swimming. I guess I can’t say I don’t like it, since I haven’t really tried it yet. I guess I’m just intimidated by it. You can do my swim portion and I’ll cover the rest, mmkay?

  2. 1) I love that photo of the pupper. (Actually, ANY pup photos are great to me πŸ™‚ )

    2) The baby thing … errr, since I am new to your blog this is all news to me … so will just say good luck to you and yours

    3) Swimming – I am soooo like you. I grew up in a water area (Hawaii) … and am great at playing in the water (I used to surf) … but actual swimming…with form?!?!? Aiiieeee!

Nevertheless, I too am thinking of Tri-ing. I got the biking down. I started running a few months ago … and about a month ago started trying to swim more.

    So … go you!

    • Mahalo! I love Hawaii. Especially Maui, the North Shore, kalua pork and shaved ice. I’m a sucker for dog pics too… who isn’t? haha. Thanks for the baby well wishes. Don’t worry, it won’t take over the blog. We can dive into the Tri together… like how I did that… dive, swimming, oh man I’m corny.

  3. Awesome pic!!! You are totally gonna win the contest!!!!
I don’t mind hearing about your pregnancy stuff I am just sad that you aren’t gonna be able to do another relay anytime soon!!!
I’m so excited for you and Raechel to do Coco beach!! You are gonna love it!! Yes you better get in the pool today!! πŸ™‚

    • I hope I win! I’m sure you’ll come up with something clever! I’m a little nervous about the whole tri thing, but more excited! I’m sure I’ll be hitting you up for advice πŸ™‚

    • Thanks! She was a trooper! I tried to get her to wear the hat, but it wasn’t happening, haha. You mean you don’t know what bottles to recommend? πŸ˜‰

  4. This blog is about YOU and there’s more to you than just running, so definitely mix it up with whatever you want! I know I read it not only bc you are a running inspiration, but bc you are a REAL person who shares the ups and downs!

  5. What an adorable picture. It put a smile on my face πŸ˜€ I love reading about your life including baby updates! I agree that your blog is about all aspects of you not just Heather the runner. Wishing you luck with the baby making πŸ˜‰

    • Thanks! I like to think I have a good mix of running and life events on here. And just wish that my lady parts start working… the act of baby making isn’t a problem, haha πŸ˜‰

  6. Right there with you on the swimming thing. If thrown in the ocean i would be screwed!! I need a lesson with the toddlers too πŸ™‚ I hope all goes well with being able to get your body back on track so you can have a little one

  7. I knew you’d win the sock contest!!! I love this pic of you and your pup. Adorable. πŸ™‚

I hope things go ok with the specialist. Good luck! I like that you talk about all things — training and life on the blog. It’s your blog, so write what you enjoy talking about!
