NOT HAPPY. Plus Some Randoms

Monday: Body Pump, Swim, Run- 4 miles @ 8:30 pace on treadmill

Tuesday: Rest- Doc appointments

I’ve been sitting in front of my computer screen for a good twenty minutes writing and re-writing a recap on how my doctors appointment went today. In the end, I’m deciding to keep it short, sweet and to the point. My apologies for the “girl talk” portion of this… I haven’t gotten my period for a year. To get pregnant, I need to get my period. Β In order to get my period, I can’t put my body under any stress. So where does that leave me? Per the Doc’s orders, I’m not supposed to exercise. At. All. Ya, this is one unhappy chica. I can walk the dog, but that’s the extent, at least for now.

Oh, and I’m supposed to gain somewhere around 15 pounds. Four pounds by my next appointment in 2 weeks. To be honest, I’m more upset about the no running/exercising thing, because now I can’t do the triathlon with Raechel and, well, running is how I de-stress. If I could gain weight and keep running, I’d be a happy camper, haha. Not gonna lie though, I know this is going to be a hard process. These instructions might not even work, but we want to take a more natural approach before drugging me up. OK, enough of the “depressing” news, let’s talk about some fun stuff…

Right after my appointment, I decided a huge cookie was what the doctor prescribed πŸ™‚

This bad boy was only 75 cents! Homemade and super chocolaty. Just how I like my cookies! Speaking of cookies, Todd ordered Girl Scout cookies from a girl who came knocking on our door and then came about a week ago. One sleeve in the cabinet, one in the freezer. Initially I was mad he got them, as I have no self control around the little discs of deliciousness, but now I guess it doesn’t matter, haha.

I received a wonderful package in the mail from the #keepittightΒ people at PRO Compression. We all know I love the marathon socks and sleeves, but I’d never tried the low trainer socks and I must say, I am in LOVE!Β SO pissed I won’t be able to run in them any time soon, but I did get in a 8 miler with them last week. No slipping or blistering (I didn’t even wash them first) and my feet were dry and comfy- remember, it’s been warm here in FL, so plenty of sweating has occurred.

pro.jpgAnd for something completely random… the other night we had grilled asparagus with dinner and after getting halfway through, I noticed I really like the thicker ones better (that’s what she said (that’s for your Raechel!)) Don’t get me wrong, I don’t discriminate when it comes to my veggies, I’ll eat them all, but the thicker asparagus have more flavor. IMO. And grilling makes them that much more delicious πŸ™‚

So again I ask, please bare with me as this baby making adventure continues. It should be interesting to say the least! Now go bike/swim/kick box/Body Pump/elliptical/run a mile for me! And when you’re doing it just whisper, “This is for you Heather!” No one will think you’re crazy πŸ˜‰

Which would be harder for you- gaining weight or not exercising at all?

Do you prefer thick or thin asparagus?

  1. Sorry to hear about your bad news. πŸ™ Not being able to exercise at all would be way harder for me than having to gain weight, like you, running is how I relieve stress. Hopefully everything works out for you. Enjoy eating lots of delicious cookies at least!

    • Thanks πŸ™‚ I know I just need to keep a positive outlook, enjoy the extra food and not think about running… which will be hard. Glad I’m not the only one who can’t live without it!

  2. I wish you the very best and hope you get great results from this. I think it would be harder for me to not exercise. I’ve been up and down with my weight some (due to my weight training routine) so that wouldn’t bother me as much as the no exercise.

  3. OH MAN!! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT!!! I am so sorry!! I am jealous that you will be able to eat as many cookies as you want!! Good luck with the gaining weight! I would have a very difficult time not exercising. I can gain weight just looking at a sleeve of GS cookies!!
I prefer thin asparagus! But Dan likes thick so it depends on who is buying the size we eat!! πŸ™‚

  4. UGH, this makes me sooooo sad!! Running is to Heather as air is to LIFE! I would honestly rather take a break from working out (I would still walk all the time) than gain weight..but I also don’t need to gain any weight..any more would be too much haha!! In the end, this will be worth it so…I will keep sending you positive vibes while you keep eating cookies the size of Jupiter.

    • Sounds like a plan, haha. Love your Air is to life analogy. Definitely fitting! I know it will be totally worth it in the long run, I just need to make it through the next few months. Easier said than done, ha.

  5. I never understand the no exercise recommendation. I know everyone is different but as an example, Kara Goucher and Paula Radcliffe are small in stature like you and both got pregnant and had babies.

My sister works in women’s health and often recommends the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility.

    • Right?! Not gonna lie, I cried the second I got to my car. I have Kara’s mommy running book πŸ™‚ I’ll have to get Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Thank you so much for the recommendation!!!

  6. I’m sorry to hear about that predicament. I know that the doc dude is just trying to get you and your other half to place you’re wanting to be though.

At times life is a give and take … just know that in the end things will be turn out the way they are supposed to. And … I’d take a guess that once you’re past the ‘cant exercise phase,’ you’ll get back into it … and make not just your life, but the WHOLE family’s a healthy one.

For myself … wt or exercise. I’d say exercise … but mine is due to a medical reason. I have spinal stenosis … and I have found if I don’t keep moving (esp core exercises) my back, hip, and legs start to have pains and go numb…so while exercising in general is a necessity, I find for me, its necessity +. (Hmm….maybe for everyone its necessity + though πŸ™‚ )

    And … mmmm…..grilled asparagus!

    • Ya, I can’t really be mad the doc. I know she’s just taking the first steps for a “case” like mine, but it’s still annoying, haha. Guess that’s what I get for being healthy and active πŸ˜‰

Yes, I’ll be back at it the second I get the OK! I agree with you that exercising should be a necessity for EVERYONE! And I’m glad it helps with your spinal stenosis πŸ™‚ It’s amazing what a little exercise can do.
