My Parents 30th Wedding Anniversary was yesterday and I SO wanted to post this then, but since my dad had a few surprises up his sleeve, I wanted to wait until after to write about it all 🙂
On Sunday, Kristin (my sister) and I made dinner for them and we had a nice evening as a family. We actually got a turkey and rack of ribs smoked by Alex’s, a local BBQ place. You can bring them any piece of meat and they’ll smoke it for $1.25/lb. The ribs turned out awesome- and I’m not really a rub person- as did the turkey. The legs/wings/top breast areas had the most smokey flavor. We thought it was something cool and different and I’m glad we tried it! Plus, now we have plenty for lunches/dinners this week!
Along side the protein, we made corn and lime bean succotash, green beans and jalapeno corn bread! We had our own little BBQ restaurant at the house. At times it seemed it was hard for my mom to just sit and relax and NOT help cook. Oh, mom. She should know by now that Kristin is an awesome cook and I’m a good sous chef (helper), haha.
For dessert we whipped up some cupcakes. Of course we all wanted my mom’s to die for chocolate cake, but none of us need a huge cake around the house right now, so we opted for cupcakes and used the same frosting recipe so we could indulge in the best part 😉 It may not be pretty, but we were going for taste, not looks!
My parents never go to fancy shmancy restaurants, it’s just not their style. So my dad surprised my mom and told her to get dressed up and be ready by 6:30. She didn’t know where she was going, just that she needed to look good! He had made reservations at Bern’s Steakhouse, a legendary restaurant. It has been ranked several times and has the largest wine list in the world, holla! There is also a dessert room, which is the bomb dot com.
Todd and I actually went there for our One Year Anniversary <3
In case you didn’t know (and why would you) the gift for your 30th Anniversary is Pearl and Diamond. My dad got my mom a beautiful pair of pearl earrings surrounded with diamonds. Kind of like this…
So pretty! Just like my mom 🙂 Anyways… they had a great night and I’m glad they were able to celebrate with a romantic dinner. I hope Todd and I have a marriage as strong and loving as theirs! Here’s to another 30!!! Love you mom an dad!
And Happy Hump Day to everyone else! Hope you’re having a great week 🙂
