This week has been a bit better on the weather front. Instead of waking up to 78-80 degrees with 95% humidity at 6 AM, it’s been more like 75-78 degrees with 85% humidity and a slight breeze. That may not seem like a big difference, but boy it feels so much “nicer” out. Now, by no means is it actually nice out, it’s just way more tolerable. I’ll take anything that doesn’t make me sweat just walking to get the mail 🙂

The outside temp is on the bottom.

I’ve been meeting up with my girlfriend Kristen (spelled with an E, not an I like my sister) at the wee hours of the morning to run.  She was out of commission for a few weeks due to a bruised rib, but we are back at it. She helps me keep a slow pace and I help her stay accountable. She has an almost 4 year old and a 9 month old at home and has to get out really early. So what does running outside in the dark plus uneven sidewalks equal= disaster…

As silly as this sounds, I think the slower pace attributed to my tripping. We run an out and back 2 mile strip and the sun is ALMOST coming up at the end of our run. I think I was getting cocky with my eyes adjusting to the darkness and stopped looking at the ground. That combined with the shuffling of a 9:30 pace for me and an uneven sidewalk and BOOM. This is only the second time I’ve ever fallen running and it’s never been when I’m running fast. The last time I fell was in Tokyo, Japan. I was running around the Imperial Palace and busted my butt on a down hill that, again, had an uneven sidewalk.

I ran again on Thursday morning and everything felt fine. Until I stood on my feet all day at work. You can see in the picture below how swollen my ankle got.

IMG_20140828_200047082_HDRGo back up and look at the picture of the scrape on my ankle. Who would’ve thought that would have caused swelling? I mean, it’s a pretty decent chunk that came out, but my actual bone and ligaments feel fine. I’m going to give it a rest and run again Saturday and see if it puffs up again.

Any fun plans for you guys on this Labor Day long weekend? Go figure one of the few holidays Todd actually gets off and I have to work 🙁 Hope you have a good weekend!

PS The Omega 3- Fatty Acid pills make my mouth taste like fish. It doesn’t stay around all day, but I can definitely taste it. Bleh.

  1. OUCHIE!!! Heather!!! That looks super painful chica. I’ve only fallen once, also on an uneven sidewalk. Fortunately or maybe unfortunately I broke my fall with my hands so my wrists took a beating. And only we Florida runners would appreciate and notice a slight change in weather like what we’ve had this week

    • Falling sucks, haha. I scraped my hands a bit, too, but they aren’t nearly as bad as my legs. Hope you’ve had some solid runs in this “nicer” weather!

    • Thanks girl! I’m feeling much better. Ran this morning and no swelling! When it’s light out, I look up as much as possible so I don’t miss anything 🙂
