A Pretty Great Saturday
Thursday: 4 miles @ 8:30 pace on treadmill/ Body Pump
Friday: 4 miles @ 8:40 pace on treadmill
Saturday: Thin Mint Sprint 5k @ 7:45/ Guardian Angels Virtual 10k
Run The Edge teamed up with the charity group Guardian Angels Medical Service Dogs to put on a virtual race. 100% of the registration fees ($5.95) go to the charity, who rescues, raises, trains, and then donates medical service dogs for many veterans returning with PTSD. In case you didn’t know, the Run The Edge team is comprised of Tim Catalano and Adam Goucher- yes, Kara Goucher’s husband. We all know I’m a fan of Kara’s, so that fact is just icing on the cake.
When I registered, I chose the 10k. Little did I know, I was working a race on the same day as the virtual race- Sept. 27. I was also given an entry to the race, so OF COURSE I ran it. The race was called the Thin Mint Sprint. Yuppers… Thin Mint like the Girl Scout cookie. As a matter of fact, the Girl Scouts put on the race and the top 50 men and women got a box of cookies! By “working” the event, I mean that I got to run the 5k and then hand out boxes of delicious cookies to runners. Pretty awesome!
I ended up placing 8th women with a time of 24:11, a 7:45 pace. I was very pleased with this time, as I haven’t run anything that fast in a long time. Sure I hit a few intervals at 7:30 on the treadmill a few weeks back, but that short and with rests, so I wasn’t expecting to do anything close to that. It’s refreshing to know that when the time comes that I can train again, I still have it in me 🙂
On my drive home, I pulled up next to my friend Melissa. We pulled over and said a quick Hello! I also stopped at my parents to share my race goodies…
It’s always a great day when I see my parents! (I even went shopping with my mom later in the afternoon) Once I got home, I jumped on the treadmill to finish the rest of my 10k for the virtual race (and make use of the sugar high I was on from cookie eating!). I did 3.1 miles on the treadmill in 26:31, which is an 8:32 pace. I had to get a pic of Ry girl since the Guardian Angels is a charity involving dog. They even provided a printable race bib!
Ya, that’s Kara next to my bib on the treadmill. I have two pictures of her taped to the tready for motivation, haha. We had breakfast for lunch after my run. It’s never too late for pancakes. And it’s never too early for a birthday surprise! Todd will be in Taiwan again for work on my birthday, so he decided to surprise me with my present early!
See that bling?! haha I’ve been wanting a diamond pendant necklace for a while now and he didn’t disappoint! I love that today was a completely random day for him to give it to me and that I was totally caught off guard. He even wrapped it all cute. Thanks, baby! I love you <3
So let’s recap my Saturday… I hung out with runners, ran a 5k and got a bunch of girl scout cookies while getting paid. I ran into Melissa and got to say hey. I hung out with my parents. I ran another 5k for a great cause. I got my birthday gift early. And most importantly, I spent most of my day with Todd and Riley. I’d say that’s a pretty great Saturday 🙂
How was your weekend?
PS For you running nerds… Dennis Kimetto broke the marathon world record in the Berlin Marathon with a 2:02:57! WHAAAAAT!? And sadly, Shalane wasn’t able to break Deena Kastor’s American record of 2:19:36 BUT, she PRed with a time of 2:21:14… not to shabby if you ask me 🙂
