For those of you who haven’t followed my blog for a while, here’s a quick run down of my current life/running situation… Todd and I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year. Because of my intense marathon training, low weight, previous period issues and being on birth control for a long time, I haven’t had a period since getting off of birth control in April of 2013. After taking 3.5 months off of all physical activity and gaining 10-15 lbs, I have resumed light running (25ish miles a week) and lifting.

The plan is to wait 6 months to see if I’ll get my period naturally and we are 4 months into that 6 months, still with no period. Here’s where the “Stuck in the Middle” part comes in. Todd and I really like the band Boys Like Girls. I may be the last person on earth to listen to CD’s, but I have their’s and listen to it on repeat all the time. To me, their song “Stuck in the Middle” explains my life right now. Have a listen…

A part of me wants to start training again. I really miss the endorphin rush and accomplishment I feel. The other part of me really wants a kid! Another part of me wants to lose a few of the LBs I had to gain so I can feel normal in my skin again. To reiterate, I want to train, but can’t. I want to have a baby, but can’t. I want to feel normal, but can’t. I’m stuck. I’m stuckin the middle, in this waiting process to see if I’ll get my period. It sucks.

Is it the end of the world? No. There are MUCH WORSE PROBLEMS. But do you see how I can relate?  As the song says, “I guess this time I’ll wait it out,” because what else can I do? And the best part of the song… “Some day things will be PERFECT, it will be WORTH it all this time. I know things WILL get better, I just need to hold it together and take my time.” Seriously. This is my theme song for this baby. I had Katy Perry’s ROAR as a theme song for Space Coast and since, as Todd says, I relate everything to running, picking a theme song for this journey is only fitting 🙂

To end on a good note… here’s a little challenge we did. Which is better- Girl Scout Tagalongs or Keebler brand?

Tagalongs

I made it a blind taste test for Todd, as these are his favorite cookies. Right away, I noticed the big difference of cookie flavor. The GS ones are a vanilla cookie and the Keebler are chocolate.

Oddly enough, Todd liked the Keebler brand better and I’ve got to admit, I liked them better, too. Kind of funny how we put certain seasonal food on a pedestal and will pay more for them, but then in reality something you can get year around (for cheaper) is better. Of course that doesn’t apply to my beloved pumpkin stuff 😉 And I’ve got to note, at least the “more expensive” part of Girl Scout cookies is for a good cause and not just more profits for a large corporation 🙂

Do you use “theme songs” to get you through tough times?

  1. Sorry your stuck in the middle Heather you wont be there for long something will give one way or another. And yes I do have theme songs especially for race seasons. Last year it was Mary J Blige “No More Drama” and this year Katy Perry’s “Dark Horse”. And I told you we are twinies lol! I like the Keebler version better too haha!! 🙂
