I Ran Outside.

This is more of my Friday Favorite. Without the ‘S,’ so I’m linking up with Heather and Clare.

You guys. I finally did it. I took the plunge and ran outside this week. Side note, I included quite a few links to older posts for new-ish readers. It seemed like a lot of info was hidden in this post and it was a good time to reminisce or get to know me better 🙂

The last time I ran outside was 5 months ago in the Jerusalem Half Marathon, while visiting Todd in Israel (each link is a part of the trip ;). This was the last time I ran before stopping completely and starting injections to get Baby Winchell.JerusalemRace.jpg

It’s been so gross and hot out lately. I haven’t had to walk Riley and haven’t done much outside, so I’m not that acclimated to the heat- rule #1 when running in the summer. Therefore, I just didn’t think it was a good idea to run outside. (Thinking out loud- writing “therefore” just made me feel like I was writing a college paper, haha.)First Outside RunIt was everything that I hoped it would be. I started a bit later than I normally would back in the day- read: after 6:30AM- so that it wasn’t pitch black. I think I hit the sweet spot of the morning and that made all the difference. I ran sans my running belt (that’s for you Jamie) and felt fine. My pace was slower than on the treadmill (obviously!) but not as bad as I thought it would be. The temperature was a bit milder than I expected, a humid (91%), but “low” 76 degrees.TempNuunDon’t mind the time and date on that thermometer, that thing’s wack these days. The top temp/humidity is inside the house, FYI. I sweat more than I have in a long time and a nice tall glass of Nuun in the perfect summer time flavor, Watermelon, was just what I needed! Drank that while I stretched under the fan (set to high) so I could cool off and get in the shower.

Proatmeal

I grabbed a quick bowl of proatmeal- 1/2 cup oats, 1/2 scoop chocolate protein powder, spoonful of cocoa powder, splash of vanilla (brings out the chocolate flavor, believe it or not) and 1 cup of water, nuked at 50% for 5 minutes. Topped off with some coconut creamer. The perfect carb/protein ratio for after a run. Even if it was only 4 miles 😉 I blow dried my hair, got dressed and headed to work!Baby Winchell

Baby Winchell says HI! And I didn’t notice until then that I forgot deodorant-ugh. I got into work later than normal and since I’m usually an early bird, it was kind of weird. I felt behind from the get go, even though I wasn’t. Doesn’t matter though, it was totally worth it and I can’t wait to run outside again 🙂

Just for fun, I’ll share with you dinner from my parents that night, too. Riced cauliflower, chicken, the juiciest beef steak tomato from the farmers market and green beans.

  1. Working out outside – GROSSS. ha ha ha ha! I don’t like the ELEMENTS getting in the way….. I feel like whenever I attempt to work out outside I always twist my ankle or some shit and I don’t need that in my life!
