What I Ate Wednesday: Work Eats!
I haven’t done a WIAW in a loooooooooong time. Mainly because I can never remember to take pictures of everything I eat. Jolene and I decided we’d do one this week since we keep each other motivated to stay on the healthy train. We both live the 80/20 life… There’s no deprivation here (see last post with huge chocolate cake!)
GOOD MORNING from Kara… seriously, this kid (baby?!) is so awesome. Her smile is contagious and you just can’t help but be happy when you’re around her… unless it’s 3AM and she’s crying hysterically because her teeth hurt and she has a rash and no one gets sleep- but that doesn’t happen too often, only when you have to wake up early 😉
I start my morning with medicine. I mean, coffee (x2) 😉 once I get to work. I’ve been adding the Vital Protein Collagen Peptides to my cup every morning. It’s tasteless and adds a little bit of protein and a lot of goodness to my cup. (Do you see my mini zen garden back there?!) I tried to give up creamer a while back but I just can’t. I love my Coffeemate Sweet Italian Cream creamer too much :)~
Breakfast!!! The Western Bagels Perfect 10 bagels are one of my favorite work breakfasts. They give me that carbiness I love but with 19 grams of protein. Boom.
Snack: My usual mid morning snack is greek yogurt. Sometimes I add chia seeds or fruit or flaxseeds, but yesterday I just had cottage cheese and a handful of pistachios.
Lunch: Salad from the work cafe. I forgot to take a picture until halfway through, but this bad boy was loaded with greens, chicken, olives, banana peppers, carrots, green peas, beets and mushrooms. I bring my own dressing- Bolthouse Farms Ranch. A big salad fills me up (I like feeling full) without weighing me down while I’m at work.
Snack: Thumbs up for veggies and hummus. The below hummus is Publix chili lime flavor and it’s pretty good, but the Trader Joe’s Horseradish one is outta this world good!
More snacks: I tend to get snacky by the end of the day so it’s spoonful of nut butter here a few nuts there, maybe some popcorn… anything to curb my sweet tooth. This Trader Joe’s Mixed Nut Butter is SO good. I actually had to bring it to work because I’d sit on the couch and mindless eat it all… healthy fats are good, but not when you eat 12 servings of them- ha!
After work, we pick up Kara from Ana’s and head home to start the evening routine. Kara usually hangs out with me in the kitchen while I make dinner. If she wants to play. we’re good to go. If she just wants to be held, well, that makes things much harder.
Dinner: Pork loin on the grill, roasted sweet potato chunks and random left over veggies. Lots of colors and nutrients on that plate! #health Kara will eat everything on this plate. I’ve actually had to start making almost double the veggies I normally do because she eats all of mine!
After dinner is bath time for Kara and then story time before bed. This girl loves her books and recently she’s been wanting more and more stories. So much so that she cries when we read her final book (I Love You To The Moon) because she know’s that means it’s bed time.
Dessert: Take home froyo for the win. I like to keep my freezer stocked with Halo Top, Enlightened and Froyo. You never know what nights you need a little treat (ummm, every night!) so having something “healthier” on hand keeps me from eating a pint of Ben & Jerry’s or left over cake or random crap that I just don’t need.
As you can see, I try and keep 80% of my foods healthy, whole foods, but you’ve got to give yourself that 20%. Keep yourself sane! I’m not running right now, so I’m even more conscious of what I’m eating, but when I’m running 30, 40, 50 mile weeks I’m able to be much more flexible… and eat more carbs, my fave!
