Last Miles, My Bday and Egg Retrieval
Last week was my last few days of running, my birthday and my egg retrieval for IVF. I must say, that all that made for a pretty eventful week, one way or another! I took Monday as a rest day after my 16 miler and did an easy 6 miles on the treadmill Tuesday. I still had a bit of my birthday cake left over and had it as a pre-breakfast with my Nuun… no shame!
Wednesday was officially my last day of running until hopefully after I find out I’m pregnant! I was so happy to get some miles in with Jolene, my BRF (best running friend). Those are my favorite runs and someone who’s willing to drive to your house at 5AM on a weekday is definitely a keeper! It doesn’t hurt that she’s a great friend outside of running, too <3
My Thursday started off at 3AM when I had to give myself the HCG trigger shot in preparation for the egg retrieval (ER). HCG is what tells a normal woman’s body to ovulate. It’s perfectly timed with the ER so that they are JUST about to release and my doc is there to suck them out before they go off on their own. We got home from work that evening and noticed we only had a 22 gauge needle…. ummm that thing is so thick! The needle is so long because the HCG has to be shot in my butt, inter-muscularly. Thankfully, Todd is an amazing husband and went out after we put Kara down for bed to get the thinner needle <3
Thursday was also my actual birthday and my co-workers surprised me with decorations and SO many treats. Pumpkin bagel, pumpkin muffin, mini donuts, cranberry orange muffin, coffee, a pumpkin sugar cookie and even more gifts! I am one lucky lady! My mom got me the dress in the picture. Pretty much anything fashionable I wear is from my mom or sister 🙂
Friday was Egg Retrieval Day! Both Todd and I took the day off of work and just took things easy. We had pancakes, took Kara to the park and did our normal weekend thing because we had no clue how’d I’d be feeling over the actual weekend. I was only on light sedation and was “awake” the whole time. I couldn’t feel anything, but I was blabbing about random stuff the whole time. Todd was able to ask questions and see everything. Pretty cool.
They tell you to dink A LOT of fluids and eat a lot of protein to help with the bloating and water retention. Seems counter intuitive, but like when I had a mild case of Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) with Kara, the extra water/sodium/protein helps draw fluid out of my abdomen to be flushed out. I pretty much laid on the couch all day Saturday and most of the day Sunday. I wore my fit bit to be comical and I walked .35 miles ALL of Saturday, haha. As of Sunday night, this is what my stomach looked like…
Next step for me is the embryo transfer, which will hopefully be Wednesday. EEEE!!!! Sorry for the lack of Kara pictures! She’ll be back in full force next week, haha. Hope everyone has a great week! Linking up with The Weekly Wrap, Mommy Moments, MCM MamaRuns, Blog Hop and Inspire Me Monday!
