4 Essential Tips on Avoiding Injuries While Running

Guest post!!! Vanessa Davis is a former personal trainer, mother of two and blog writer at www.diet.st. When she isn’t writing she usually spends her free time playing with her children and her dogs. Here are her tips: I’m a passionate runner and physical, aerobic activity has been a big part of my life for as long as I can remember. If I don’t go on a long jog at least three times a week I feel nervous and like I have all this pent up energy that I simply have to spend somewhere. I’m really careful about performing any kind of […]

The average runner lands on her feet about 10,000 times during an hour-long run. Add the countless miles runners put in and you’d assume this is enough of a workout to build some pretty strong foot muscles, right? The truth is that running mostly strengthens the muscles involved in planting your feet on the ground and pointing your toes downwards. This leaves numerous other small muscles spread throughout your ankle and foot weak and susceptible to common running injuries like Achilles tendinitis, plantar fasciitis and ankle sprains among others. Most runners tend to overlook foot strengthening exercises and yet the […]

Full Foot Strength

My running game has been strong this past week and I’ve run almost every day <3 I had to take a little over 3 weeks off and I was surprised at how quickly my paces bounced back. It is H.O.T.T. hott here in Florida and I definitely haven’t adjusted to running in it. Per usual, I’ve been loading up on Nuun and that has definitely helped. Todd was out of town last Sunday evening to late Wednesday night, so I had to get creative to fit my runs in. Getting up at 4AM to run, shower, get ready, get Kara ready, […]

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

If you aren’t sick of hearing/reading it yet… Happy Mother’s Day! Mine started with a nice and easy 10 miler. It was warm out, but felt nicer than the previous mornings! Some mom’s want to sleep in on “their day.” Not me! I want to do what I love and that running! I got home a little after Kara woke up, so I drank my Nuun and she had her milk, before we sat down together to stretch and share a banana. We went on our typical weekend walk to the playground, one of my favorite parts of the weekend. […]

Banana with Kara

I have a super fun guest post for you guys today! Something I need to incorporate into my own training and life… Enjoy and HAPPY FRIDAY! I’m sure you’ve heard about cross training before, but do you actually know what cross training is? Well, if you want to know the exact definition, Runner’s World defines as a training that “combines exercises, disciplines, different than that of the athlete in training.” Under this definition, you have forms of training that are tremendously important for your body like strength training that actually don’t qualify as core training, simply because they don’t fall […]

This is going to be an Instagram inspired post… so if you follow me there (and you should 😉 this may be redundant, #sorrynotsorry. #LikeABoss… When I run on the treadmill in the mornings, Kara and Todd stop in to say Hello. It absolutely makes my morning, especially when she walks in with that shirt and looks up at me like that. SO Glad Todd captured that moment. Had a pretty great run that morning, too #HisandHersDrinks… I haven’t had a full glass of wine (or any other alcoholic beverage) since BEFORE we started trying to have Kara, so were […]

Like A Boss

This weekend was MUCH more laid back than last, but lets start with last week. Monday morning we drop Kara off at daycare and an hour later we get a call that she probably has Hand Foot and Mouth disease, which is a nasty (highly contagious) virus that causes blisters on their hands feet and mouth. I packed up my laptop and told my boss I’d be working from home. Monday was Halloween (doesn’t it seem so far away now!) and Kara was a baby Giraffe. We ended up taking her to the doctor that evening so by the time we got […]
