My Running Journey Mile by Mile :)

Running Surfaces- Prelude

WORKOUT Easy 6 miles @ 8:28 pace on treadmill My knee was oddly sore during the first mile, but felt fine after that. I think the pounding outside on the trail is having an affect on my recovery time. I am going to stick with the treadmill for all runs except my long run. ****** I think it’s important that people learn a bit about the surfaces they run on. It can play a role in getting to the starting line injury free and well prepared. It can also influence your actual race experience. Here is a little anecdote… The […]

A Girls Night BDay Party!

WORKOUT Rest/ Weights My knee was sore this morning, so a rest day it shall be. I did go to the gym to do upper body weights and some ab work. ****** Last night was a blast! We celebrated a friends birthday with a girls night in. Gone are the days of late nights out, staying up to the wee hours and feeling horrible the next day. And you know what, I am perfectly fine with that. I actually prefer it that way. It’s nice to hang out with the ladies, have some good food and drinks and just be […]

A Saturday Long run & Running “Buddies”

WORKOUT 12 miles @ 8:08 pace on the trail Since this post is about my run, I’ll go into detail below. ****** Real quick… Don’t forget to set your clocks forward tonight before you go to bed! It’s Daylight Saving Time! Remember the Cucumber Vodka we got last week? Well that Birthday Party is tonight, and the reason I ran my long run today instead of my typical Sunday. I don’t think I’ll be wanting to get up early and run in the AM, especially with the hour less sleep I would get. Todd will probably have to pick me up, as […]

Like Mother, Like Dog-ter

WORKOUT Easy 6 miles @ 8:35 pace on treadmill I had a great run with a friend today. Explanation included in the post below… ****** It has come to my attention that Riley has photo bombed HRF (HeatherRunsFast) lately, so I figured I’d giver her a post of her own. I’m so kind. OK, onto the run… technically, I ran 4 on the treadmill and 2 outside with Riley. The cooler weather is ideal for taking her on a run. Riley is a “larger” dog, 60 lbs, so when the humidity and temps rise, we back off from taking her […]

Daylight Saving Time

WORKOUT Easy 4 miles @ 8:30 on treadmill/ weights Decided to scale it back a bit today and only do 4. Everything felt OK, but still not 100%, uh. Guess I shouldn’t complain, at least its not getting worse. I wasn’t going to lift, but decided to do a quick upper body work out at home. ****** Let me start off by saying that I always thought it was Daylight SavingS time. Nope! There is no “s” after Saving. Who knew?! Sunday, March 10th at 2:00AM is Daylight Saving Time. Don’t forget to set your clocks FORWARD Saturday, March 9th before you […]

WORKOUT Easy 6 miles @ 8:30 pace on treadmill My knee is still trucking along. It is seemingly getting better, ever so slowly. We will see how it holds up with increased mileage. ****** Oh, Target. How I hate to love you. I can never get out of there without spending unplanned money. I went to Target the other day to buy a new Stop Watch for personal training. My old one died Monday and I don’t want to use my Garmin for anything other than my running- selfish, I know. They had a bunch to choose from, ranging from […]

Non-Clothing Running Essentials

WORKOUT Easy 6 miles @ 8:30 on treadmill/ Pilates Still felt my knee a bit around mile 3, but it wasn’t as prominent as it has been in the past. We used a ball in Pilates today and I LOVE the extra challenge it creates! Gotta keep my core strong. Mary Anne (instructor) also incorporated a lot of hamstring stretching, which I always appreciate. ****** Here are some of my favorite running must haves, other than clothing… Garmin– I use the Forerunner 205 and Todd (along with pretty much everyone else I know) uses the Forerunner 405. I’ll keep mine […]
